Book Week: August 17-23
"Reading is My Secret Power"
Reading and storytelling with children helps to promote brain development and imagination. It’s teaching children about language and emotions.
Engage children in looking through picture books, singing rhymes and songs or telling stories from different cultures. Young children and babies love repetition.
For preschool and kindergarten age readers look at the book before you start reading... talk about what the story might be about, who will be in it and what will happen.
Benefits & Development:
recognise sounds, words and language and develop early literacy skills
sparks imagination and stimulates curiosity
helps learn the difference between ‘real’ and ‘make-believe’
develop strong emotional connections with events in the story
