The Wonders of Discovery & Science with Children

For young learners, science is just an extension of their everyday world. That's why it's so important to focus on learning how to create experiences that encourage discovery through play, asking questions, exploration and using creativity to solve simple problems.

Science exploration activities provide children with opportunities to develop and practice many different skills and attributes.

These include:

communication skills

collaborative skills

team work

perseverance

analytical, reasoning & problem-solving skills

Science activities and experiences can encourage children to develop inquiring minds and curiosity about science and nature, to acquire knowledge, conceptual understanding, and skills to solve problems and make informed decisions in scientific contexts. Asking ‘why?’ opens the door to a deeper understanding of the world around them.

A connection to science is a connection to our world.

Curiosity, investigation, exploration enables our children to develop a love of learning and finding answers. Guiding children by listening to their ideas and interests within the world around us, makes it easier to plan activities and experiences to enjoy together, and during independent play. There are many branches to scientific exploration - from Biology to Physics, Conservation and the Environment, Space, the Solar Systems and the Animal World - where to start is up to you!
