During the Dreamtime, a lizard hatched from a cluster of eggs before being snatched up by an eagle. As he wriggled free, his tail broke off and he began to fall, until Biamme created a safe landing for him. Biamme gave the lizard great speed and shared the Lore with him.
When the lizard later forgot to ask the Elders for permission to hunt on their Country, he had to face the consequences. Biamme gave him two boreens, or shields, which grew on each side of his body to protect him from the Elders’ spears.
This engaging story supports cultural learning, storytelling and meaningful conversations about respect for Country, responsibility and following Lore.
