The DIY Calm Down Bottle offers a simple and engaging way to support children’s self regulation and focused sensory play. Sensory bottles are commonly used in early learning environments to help children slow their breathing, observe movement and settle their bodies during moments of heightened emotion. This bottle allows educators and families to create their own calming sensory experience as children watch the contents gently swirl and settle.
The bottle includes the creative elements needed to design a personalised sensory bottle. Simply add warm water and a small amount of washing up liquid to activate the calming flow effect. Measuring 210mm x 50mm in diameter, the bottle is easy for children to hold and observe.
The silicone caps can be cleaned in a steriliser, dishwasher or with warm soapy water, and the contents can be refreshed over time for continued sensory exploration.
EYLF Learning Outcome Connections
Outcome 1.2: Children develop their emerging autonomy, inter-dependence, resilience and agency as they practise calming strategies and self regulation.
Outcome 3.1: Children become strong in their social and emotional wellbeing as they learn ways to settle their bodies and manage feelings.
Outcome 4.3: Children transfer and adapt what they have learned from one context to another as they observe movement, cause and effect, and sensory changes within the bottle.
