This wooden counting log supports early numeracy through hands-on exploration of number, quantity and order. Children can place the wooden rods into the holes to match numerals, helping them to visualise quantity and develop an understanding of cardinality as they see the difference between numbers.
With numerals 1-10 on one side and 0-9 on the other, the log provides opportunities to explore number sequences, including the concept of zero. Children can count, compare and correct their own work, supporting independent learning and problem solving.
Made from FSC beech wood, the log measures 465mm in length and includes 60 wooden rods, each measuring 60mm.
EYLF Learning Outcome Connections
Outcome 4.2: Children develop a range of skills and processes such as problem solving and experimentation as they count, compare and organise quantities.
Outcome 5.4: Children begin to understand how symbols and pattern systems work as they connect numerals with quantities and explore number sequences.
