The Winter Cover (aka Hothouse Cover or Propagation Cover) is made from clear non-permeable PVC. They are custom cut and hem-sewn to size and shape so as to sheath easily and snugly over all three Vegepod canopies. The covers create a greenhouse/hothouse environment for plants, allowing sunlight to come through and trapping the heat in, whilst keeping extreme cold and precipitation out. This not only protects plants from the sharp cold, winds, frosts and snow but also creates a micro-climate to enhance growth. For extreme cold or poor light environments, users are recommended to take off the existing canopy mesh before sheathing the clear PVC cover on. This rids the 17% shade supplied by the existing canopy. For climates where it is not so extreme, then users can simply sheath the covers straight over the top of the existing mesh. These winter covers are also used for protective early plant propagation (raising of seeds/seedlings), early season planting (e.g.: winter tomatoes) or season extenders (summer crops into autumn). Please take care to remove covers as soon as periods of warmth begin or you will otherwise typically ‘cook’ your plants”.

KindyGarden Early Years Gardening Program: Vegepod have consulted with the Centre for Children and Young People at Southern Cross University and First Years Early Childhood Consulting to develop a suite of gardening lesson plans designed to help guide educators throughout the entire growing process. How the lessons link to the Early Years Learning Framework? Each lesson links to principles, practices and learning outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework, which are highlighted for educators convenience on each lesson plan. These links have been identified through trialling these lesson plans in Early Childhood settings, however other outcomes may be observed depending on the children and educators taking part in the lessons. Each lesson plan clearly articulates how it links to the EYLF. How do the lessons help meet the National Quality Standards? The KindyGarden lesson plans can help services meet the National Quality Standards in the following ways. (Note: further standards may be met depending on the children and educators involved). Quality area 1 - Educational program and practice: The KindyGarden is implemented as part of the educational curriculum. The documentation templates allow educators to document childrens voices and learning, as well as showing links to the EYLF. Quality area 2 - Childrens health and safety: Children are introduced and encouraged to participate in healthy eating and hygiene practices. Quality area 3 - Physical Environment: The KindyGarden helps embed sustainable practices in the Early Childhood service. The KindyGarden also supports children to take responsibility for the environment. Furthermore, the KindyGarden is perfect to help services meet Education and Care Services Regulation regarding children having access to natural materials and resources. Quality area 5 - Relationships with children: The KindyGarden encourages all children to be involved, if they choose. As a group project, this encourages children to collaborate, communicate, share ideas and be respectful.
